Sleek Pitching, Timely Hitting Just Enough For ‘Sters in Win

The Santa Barbara Foresters used a timely extra-base hit and an error in the sixth inning to beat the Menlo Park Legends 3-1 for the second time in as many days. Four pitchers also threw in the affair, combining for just a single earned run and a total of 13 strikeouts.
Calvin Proskey was the highlight for the first half of the ballgame. In his five innings of work, Proskey only saw three runners reach base, had three 1-2-3 innings, and eight strikeouts.
He got some help from Joseph Sandusky in the second to prevent a leadoff single. After a slow ground ball was in no man's land between first and second, Sandusky charged and immediately flipped the ball out of his glove to get the runner by a step.
For the fourth straight day, the Foresters went down first. With Joey Wittig taking over in the sixth, the Legends greeted him with a single and a double, before a fielder's choice that was a play at the plate was unsuccessful from Santa Barbara.
Kurt Ippolito laid down a perfect sacrifice bunt after Carter Rutenbar walked to lead off the sixth. An overthrow on the play at first let Rutenbar chug home and gave Ippolito second base. Wylan Nelson had a great at-bat to work a walk, which was followed up by Brady Janusek slicing a triple down the right field line, scoring two more and giving the 'Sters a 3-1 lead.
Both offenses were relatively quiet from the seventh onwards. Four walks and a single, all by the Legends, were the only blemishes on either side's pitching.
In the midst of this, two Foresters made their pitching debuts, keeping it clean in their three combined innings of work. Josh Hollis dealt in the seventh, working around a leadoff error to keep Menlo Park scoreless.
Kaleb Rogers was tasked with finishing off the Legends, dealing his way through the eighth and ninth. He picked up the save after his two innings of work, adding three strikeouts.
